Centrum Offices go Green

Companies are sporting their green every where you look these days. This is a trend I’m personally thrilled about. It seems to me, that with hundreds of new corporations going green each month, we have a decent shot at making a sizable impact on our environment. As you may recall, I discussed Centrum’s green plans for the Roosevelt Collection a couple months back.
We’ve grown so excited about these green initiatives that we’ve recently implemented them in our offices as well! Now, our work-space is outfitted with various recycling containers for paper products, as well as containers for plastics and aluminum. Plus, each individual office has a mini-recycling basket beneath the desk. We’ve also traded our plastic water bottles for a filtered water pitcher.
As cliche’ as it sounds, I really had no idea how much reusable material I was throwing out until I began recycling everything. It’s made me realize how imperative it is that offices recycle; there is such an exorbitant amount of paper disposed of everyday. If reading this leaves you, ahem, green with envy because your office hasn’t hopped on the eco-friendly train, fret no more. The following are tips from techsoup.org for “greening” your work-space:
- Switch to 100-percent recycled paper in printers and copy machines.
- Use the backs of already-used paper in fax machines, and as scratch pads.
- Set all computer monitors to go to sleep after being idle for several minutes (rather than letting screen savers run for long periods of time).
- Utilize the natural bright light of their coastal location whenever possible in lieu of the fluorescent overhead lights.
- Switch to biodegradable cleaners.
- Recycle used ink-jet cartridges.
